Under the overall coordination of the UNIDO Representative, the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (Environment) and in close cooperation with the international consultants and other national experts, my duties were but not limited to:

  • Consulted various stakeholders to review relevant previous and on-going programmes/projects under the UNIDO Country Programme in the identified areas and identified critical issues, problems, challenges and opportunities
  • Provided support and assistance to the international and other national experts in information gathering and data collection in the course of executing the projects
  • Provided advice and views on appropriate strategies for the intervention programme
  • Assisted in ensuring linkages between the respective projects under the programme for synergy
  • Provided support to the Regional Office in the process of finalizing the projects under the Green Industry Concept programme and followed up with stakeholders and counterparts for clarifications and additional information
  • Facilitated meetings with stakeholders and assisted in arranging site visits
  • Provided inputs and participated in the preparation of the final project documents and also prepared report of assignment that was submitted to UNIDO

National Expert for the survey of stocks of unwanted Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) in Nigeria

  • Undertook a survey to identify the existing stocks of unwanted ODS and stocks which may become potentially available for destruction in the near future (within 1-2 years)
  • Collected information on any ongoing and very near future collection efforts of unwanted ozone depleting substances to identify any replacement programmes for new, more energy efficient appliances
  • Prepared a survey report and a report on ODS recycling policies and schemes in Nigeria
  • Prepared a survey evaluation of collected information and a summary of results of the survey highlighting already available stocks and stocks potentially available in the near future
National Expert on Resource Efficient & Cleaner Production and Promotion of Green Industry

  • Assessed relevant environmental issues under Cleaner Production and Promotion of Green Industry

  • Prepared project concepts to address specific national environmental needs and priorities within the context of the country programme
  • Involved in the identification of Persistent Organic Pollutants focusing on Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) contaminated sites in Nigeria using PHCN Ijora Power Station as a case study
  • Conducted Preliminary and Detailed Site Investigations to ascertain the Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) contaminated site profile, flow pattern etc
  • Recommended appropriate intervention strategies to achieve long term objectives of the Programme
