  • Conduct benchmarking exercises for the 3-PL and manufacturing markets in Southern Africa for clients and advise management of necessary changes to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Create and propose solutions for clients. Manage the complete project for clients to ensure effective rollout. (this would include project proposal, scope of work, resources required and costs, net/long term benefit, managing the project team/clients department until handover)
  • Handled Supply Chain Projects for clients such as optimal stock holdings (the calculations of optimal stock which included seasonal variations, cycle stock, lead times, ATP’s “available to promise”, current orders, back orders, in-transits, shelf life and safety stock)
  • Improving the order entry process : (introduced the concept of MRP –Materials Requirement Planning-, the introduction of BOM’s-Bill of Materials and the “kitting process”, identification of supply chain constraints such as capacity planning to optimize output of Distribution)
  • Optimized demand planning for clients (reviewed national demand for client and filtered into different geographical regions to ensure optimal stock holding across all SKU’s to eliminate out-of-stocks and missed sales opportunities. Considered factors such as seasonal/climate demand, least cost routing systems and back haul opportunities)
  • Managed medium term projects for client (TFD) in setting up satellite warehouses to ensure adequate stock holding at Point-of-Sale. These projects included identifying outsourced warehouses, conducting analysis/feasibility in infrastructure (racking, shelving, flooring, material handling equipment, food safety standards, pallet configurations, cross docking opportunities, route planning) and presenting to client’s management.
  • Created Replenishment Model Project for client (Vector Logistics) to automate re-ordering process for constant demand SKU’s on the ERP System.
  • Project managed on behalf of client (the scientific group) the introduction of DHL to distribute on behalf of client into Sub-Saharan Africa. (cold storage/temperature controlled shipments)
  • Set up cross docking facility for client (UPN) to ensure speedy delivery of product when it arrives by container (this involved the creation of staging lanes directly to Key Accounts, via the warehouse management system. Included stock rotation –FIFO)
  • Set-up, monitored and managed Supply Chain KPI’s for Clients which included inbound, reverse picking, inventory, planning, picking, dispatching and distribution KPI’s. Thereafter automated and handed over to management.
  • Introduced “Manugistics”- Least Cost Distribution Systems for Clients (Metair Investments and Barloworld) to optimize and reduce distribution costs. This also incorporated backhaul opportunities which reduced the “landed costs” at DC’s for Distribution.
  • I have created Standard Operating Practices for Supply Chain Operations which also involved training of client’s employee’s.
  • I actively participate on Global Engineering and Supply Chain Forums for the initiation of best practices and to maintain a healthy relationship with “regulatory bodies”. Member of SAIIE (South African Institute of Industrial Engineers)
  • I also advised board of director of possible challenges and potential supply chain/regulatory issues with corrective/preventative action plans.
