One of the main components of the project is the Trainee-Program.

It is designed to cover a period of twelve months shared between:

On-the-job training (operations – Field, Branch, Region and Head Office) for about three months;

Functional information and involvement in projects – about two months;

Project Management and responsibility – about two months;

Special training in the functional areas where the future job is planned – about three months;

Formal training units in the form of seminars and workshops on relevant management skills – two months and continuous after the program.

The project is seeking to recruit a trainee for the Board and Legal unit.

Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Head of Department for Corporate Affairs, the trainee is expected to rigorously complete the full Trainee-Program and acquire the relevant certifications.

The Trainee is expected to work in close collaboration with all the operation units of LAPO MFB within the prescribed timeframe and to support project delivery in areas and functions assigned.

Next to the intensive academic trainings on general management, inputs on LAPO culture, strategy, structure and systems as well as on-the-job project management capacity building, the focus of professional training is to serve the following future responsibilities:

Design and implement a system that will foster good corporate governance best practices across all operational areas in the bank and sister companies

To facilitate the maintenance of accurate and up to date statutory records to meet regulatory requirements

To institutionalize a system where corporate governance system can be evaluated in line with changing global best practices

To be trained to perform the following duties and tasks:

i. Support the Head of Corporate Affairs to review the governance process in line with global best practices and develop appropriate bench marks

ii. Manage relationship with partners on fund raising especially as it relates to reviewing all legal documentation before execution

iii. Manage relationship with partners on new projects/initiative

iv. Manage the corporate strategy business development initiatives and processes of the bank

v. Drive and manage due diligence processes including rating exercises

vi. Maintain the statutory registers and ensure all returns are made appropriately to the respective regulatory bodies

vii. Supervise protocol activities relating to partners for smooth onsite visit and provide immigration support where required

viii. Design and implement systems and procedures for evaluating board performance

ix. Develop and conceptualize for production, the bank’s annual report

x. Support the Head of Corporate Affairs in the production of all legal documentation for the formalization of loans received

xi. Provide support during a statutory meetings; board, board committees and annual general meetings

xi. Appraise subordinates promptly and objectively, and follows up on action points resulting from the appraisal

xii. Take responsibility for the training, coaching and mentoring of subordinates

Perform other duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned by Head Corporate Affairs

A good LLM or MBA degree, preferably in law, finance, business or social sciences.

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Strong organisational skills with a commitment to knowledge sharing

Basic Accounting skills

Good writing skills

Proficient in the use of relevant IT (particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office appliances and e-mail)

Analytical and problem solving skills

Self-motivated, willing to work under pressure and diplomatic

Multi-tasking capabilities

Integrity, firmness, reliability and strong sense of discrete and confidentiality

Strong inter-personal competence

Willingness to work as a team

Readiness and ability to accommodate flexible working hours;

Ability and readiness to work with people of different nationalities and cultures

Presentation skills

Not relevant in the case of fresh graduates with the relevant academic qualifications; alternatively

Minimum of 2 years cognate experience in a Company Secretarial Department of a large organization or with a reputable Company Secretarial Services Provider.

Regulatory related infractions identified by the CBN

Frequency of error rates in minutes

Timeliness and accuracy in the update of statutory registers

Incidence of complaints received relating to the absence of policies, manuals and other regulatory documents across the bank

Timeliness in the filling of statutory returns at the Corporate Affairs Commission

Language

Fluency in English
