My experiences working with DHS during my National Youth Service Year (NYSC) and remained as a volunteer with the organisation before going to further my studies, includes advising and counselling people on the risk factors associated with diabetes and hypertension, how these chronic conditions can be prevented and for those who were either diabetic or hypertensive, How they could manage these chronic conditions through lifestyle changes like diet, physical activity, smoking cessation and reduction in alcohol consumption.
Conducting free medical checks like blood pressure checks, blood sugar level and body mass index.
I was also responsible for organising medical outreach programs in schools, corporate establishments and communities. The essence of this was to ensure people are educated on the risk of diabetes and hypertension, and if not properly managed, it could lead to other life threatening conditions.
I was a volunteer with ths clinic for about two years. My role involved assisting nurses to care for patients, educating patients on how to manage some health prolems.
I was responsible for advertising and selling products for this company for about two years. This increased my communication skills and interpersonal skills.
My passion for improving health and making an impact in my community and wherever I find myself made me study physiology and public health. I believe working with this great organisation will help me further develop my skills thereby helping the organisation achieve its goals and mission as a body and lead to advancement in my career.I have acquired relevant skills both academically and from past work experience, which will enable me to be a part of the team and also propel this organisation to a greater height. I am also open to learning new ideas and innovations.
