 To effectively organise and run the processing group of Seismology in order to optimize productivity.

 Establish processing flows before the start of any project.

 Responsible for ensuring that data tapes and other documents are received from the recording Observers at the end of day’s work and details documented in the data log book in the Seismology department.

 Responsible for ensuring that the processing seismologist produces a copy of the field data tape.

 Ensure that the copy tape(s) is verified by scanning in order to certify that it is true copy of the original data tape.

 Ensure that the processing seismologist reads in the data into the processing machine.

 Responsible for the effective organisation of the refraction team as to optimize productivity.

 Responsible for designing the refraction grid in a prospect in consultation with the chief seismologist.

 Responsible for establishing a refraction schedule and ensuring adherence to it.

 Responsible for ensuring that the refraction points are scouted prior to drilling and logging.

 Responsible for maintaining updated refraction grid map.

 Responsible for ensuring that refraction recording equipment, blaster and cables are in good condition before departure to field.

 Responsible for ensuring that explosives required are loaded and transported to field in safe manner.

 Responsible for ensuring that contractual drill depth is achieved for the refraction point.

 Responsible for ensuring that the refraction point and environs are cleared before logging.

 Responsible for keeping a record of drill log showing soil formation at various depths.

 Responsible for ensuring that the up-hole is logged correctly and data returned to the office.

DUTIES:

 To effectively organise and run the SPS group of Seismology in order to optimize productivity.

 Collect coordinates of swath from survey and update the coordinate database 7 days before recording. This shall include mainline, receiver and source offset and compensation shots.

 Responsible for creating generic header format for the project detailing all the geometry and contract parameters.

 Make a database from the SPS generated from the survey design and convert it to Sercel format (Bin-In file) for the observers.

 Responsible for receiving and evaluating Bin-out, electronic Observer’s log, daily shot analysis, and Recording Seismologist field reports daily from the Observers.

 Compare Bin-In and Bin-Out to ensure they are not at variance. If there is a difference, check the source and compile the errors and pass to appropriate Seismology group for proper action.

 Responsible for checking and correcting any wrong headers noted by the Observers and Recording Seismologist daily before compiling the SPS.

 Convert the Bin-Out file to an acceptable format for use in the SPS program.

 Cross link the source, receiver and the converted Bin-Out to build up SPS database of the swath.

 Shall investigate shots with no time, shots in relational but not in source or in source (S-file) but not in relational file (X-file).

 Liaise with relevant staff to correct any error noticed. For example missing will be received from survey or wrong header corrected. After the error investigation and correction the process of cross linking will be repeated again.

 Make daily SPS output for the processing group to use for geometry assignment.

 Responsible for ensuring that the shot types, shot depth information is updated in the database using shooter’s, drills and depth checker’s reports.

 Import shot type, shot depth file into the SPS database in order to update depth and shot type in readiness for final SPS compilation.

 Responsible for updating the receiver and source point’s codes (shot types, bunched and hydrophone stations) with information received from the recorders.

 Responsible for editing the generic header format to ensure that all source and receiver points’ types are properly coded in the swath header under compilation.

 Use shooting and laying information from production Seismologist to properly index source points and receiver points.

 Responsible for quality controlling the SPS file to ensure that coordinates of the overlap shot points of the adjacent swaths and overlap receiver points are consistent.

 Use SPS of adjacent swaths to check elevation trends for any anomaly. If there are spikes refer back to the survey department for verification and correction.

 Run SPS format and integrity checks, if no errors output final SPS.

 Responsible for submitting error free SPS to the client for verification, checking and approval.

 Extract 4D subset in case time lapse seismic survey or convert to P190 format in case of NAOC.

 Responsible for the documentation and all paper work in readiness for SPS and data dispatch.

Field Design/ Planning Seismologist

DUTIES(Field Design):

 Model the survey design in consultation with the Company's Chief Geophysicist and Chief Seismologist using Client approved geometry.

 Responsible for producing the preplot fold coverage maps of the survey in the contractual offset ranges.

 Use the satellite imagery (Ikonos or spot) to plan real time offsets where there are obstacles for survey department.

 Use omission reports from survey to augment planning where real time offset could not be achieved.

 Responsible for ensuring that offset and compensation points are compiled and submitted to survey department.

 Evaluate/review the offsets cut daily and compile unattainable positions with new positions recommended and submitted to survey department.

 Create a swath by swath project for the purposes of updating and monitoring the effect of omissions, offsets and compensation shots on the pre-plot fold.

 Responsible for producing the swath pre plot project coverage map (1:25,000) per contractual offset ranges with all offsets and compensations positions updated.

 Create SPS files from the Omni project of the swath and convert to an acceptable recording format in use by the crew.

 Responsible for generating recording program or bin-in (soft and hard copies) for the recording department.

 Responsible for training the Seismologists assigned to the planning and field design group.

 Responsible for evaluating survey input data and reporting to the Chief Seismologist if the Survey department is unable to supply data according to schedule.

 Liaises with Surveyors and Observers to support recording operation.

 Produce pre plot shot map with all offset and compensation updated for the recorder


DUTIES(Planning):

 Responsible for the collection of daily production reports from Survey, Drills, Recording and other sections.

 Responsible for the accurate preparation of daily production report.

 Send approved production reports to the Client and the Company before 7am daily.

 Responsible for ensuring that survey, drills and recording progress maps are updated by the Seismology Clerks.

 Responsible for ensuring that all lines cut have complete, accurate omission report.

 Compile shot points that require offsetting using the omission report from the Surveyors and monitor progress.

 Prepare drilling program for approved lines using omission reports to ensure that all shots programmed for drilling are within safety distance standards.

 Liaise with the Planning Seismologist to prepare recording program using drills and omission reports for shooters. Shot spread, shot position, type and charge size must be correctly detailed.

 Examine all monitor records at end of day’s operation.

 Examine all shooters and drills reports daily to ensure compliance to approved format of reporting.

 Monitor the activities of the environmental crews and report craters created and recovered.

 Check depth checkers report and establish a schedule of verifying of depth reported by the group.

 Reconcile explosive consumption daily with all shots taken, misfires, preloaded shots and explosives issued properly accounted for.

 Responsible for updating and cross checking the explosive license database of all shooting crews and other staff with handler’s permit weekly.

 Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports and submission to appropriate authorities in a timely manner.

 Monitor swath progress and reconcile sq.km reported by swath and report to the Production Seismologist.

 Responsible for ensuring that accurate drills, depth and loaders/shooters database is maintained.
